Tragic accident in Northern California: Baby presumed dead as family car plunges off cliff

Trinity County officials are actively conducting search and rescue operations to locate an infant who disappeared when the car he was in, driven by his parents, veered off State Route 299 and into the Trinity River. The incident happened in the early hours of Thursday, a few miles from the Big Flat campground. The California Highway Patrol spokesperson, Keith Krick, confirmed that a young couple from Shasta Lake was traveling with their 9-month-old baby in a 2004 Lexus ES 330. Following the crash, where it’s unclear why the vehicle lost control, the infant was swept away from his father's arms in the fast waters. The parents sustained minor to moderate injuries during the accident. Although the child has not been found, search and rescue operations are ongoing. The river's high flow rate makes the search challenging. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
