PETERSBURG, Va. — A three-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer shut down Interstate 85 in both directions for several hours early Tuesday in Petersburg, according to Virginia State Police.The crash occurred at about 3:16 a.m. on the southbound side of I-85 near the 68-mile marker, state police said in a news release.Investigators said a vehicle became disabled in a travel lane, and a second driver stopped in front of the disabled vehicle to help. Both drivers were outside their vehicles when a tractor-trailer hauling household goods was unable to avoid the stopped vehicles and struck them.No injuries were reported, police said.The drivers of the two stopped vehicles were issued summonses. State police did not immediately release additional details about the summonses.The Virginia Department of Transportation first reported at about 3:47 a.m. that all northbound and southbound lanes near South Sycamore Street were closed because of the crash.Southbound lanes reopened by about 6:30 a.m., and all lanes were reopened by 7:30 a.m., according to VDOT.The crash remains under investigation.This is a developing story.
