Tractor-trailer crash closes I-95 north in Cumberland County: Officials

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — A crash late Thursday morning in Cumberland County closed all Interstate 95 northbound lanes near Hope Mills, southeast of Fayetteville, the North Carolina Department of Transportation said. A tractor-trailer crashed off the highway and went down an embankment around 11:10 a.m. at exit 44, which is for Claude Lee Road, the NCDOT and Cumberland County Emergency Management said. Traffic was backed up in both directions of I-95 following the crash. A detour was set up for all northbound traffic at exit 40, officials said. Drivers are asked to use Exit 40, which is the exit for I-95 Business North, and then later connect to I-95 as an alternate route. As of noon, I-95 remains closed. NCDOT has not said when the highway is expected to reopen. An NCDOT traffic cam showed two helicopters that landed at the scene, then lifted off. One copter appeared to be loaded with an injured person. No other information was available from Cumberland County Emergency Management. CBS 17 has reached out to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol for more information.
