An accident occurred on the Delaware Memorial Bridge during the early hours of Friday when a commercial vehicle reportedly fell off the bridge and submerged in the Delaware River. The Delaware River & Bay Authority (DRBA) has reported that emergency personnel are on the scene, with the left southbound lane of the bridge closed. The driver is in critical condition after the tractor-trailer plunged 20 feet into the water upon crashing through a concrete barrier. Fortunately, no other vehicles were involved in the incident, and response teams including fire brigade, dive teams, and Coast Guard responded promptly. The bridge has sadly seen previous fatal accidents, including a truck-car collision in March 2021 and a fatal crash in April 2021. The authorities have since reopened the lanes, but caution is advised when crossing the bridge.
