Tow truck crashes into utility poles and hydrant in Bridgewater, knocking out power and water
Cleanup was underway in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, Monday after a crash involving a truck toppled utility poles and damaged a hydrant. Bridgewater police said a tow truck was carrying two vehicles heading eastbound on Plymouth Street near Sylvan Terrace when it struck two utility poles and a fire hydrant. The poles snapped, leaving wires dangling. "It was a really loud bang," said neighbor Julia Mahoney. "Everything just went out, all the power went out." The crash knocked out power to the neighborhood for hours, and water service was disrupted. The truck’s diesel fuel also spilled into the road."I must have heard some kind of bang, and I looked to the left, and I could see the telephone pole coming down with the transformer," said neighbor Marc Irving.Police said the driver was evaluated on scene and refused treatment. He was cited for a marked lanes violation, police said. Plymouth Street remained closed while crews repaired the utility poles.
