‘They jumped right in’: Employees rush to help after fatal crash
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) -- A group of past first responders and veterans ran to help victims during Thursday's deadly crash. A multi-vehicle crash that resulted in the death of two people occurred right outside of Nine-Line Apparel on Fort Argyle Road Thursday. Employees of the local business said they jumped into action to help before emergency services arrived at the scene. "Nobody said, hey, go help. We just all sprinted out of the office," Nine Line Apparel Director of Sales John Bohannon said. Bohannon was just one of the employees who jumped out the officers when he heard what he thought was an explosion. He said when he and his team ran out the building, they saw cars covered in flames. "It was hot, it's tough to see," Bohannon said. "There's a lot of people that were desperately yelling for help. I mean, we grabbed the hoses over to the to the hydrant because we knew where the hydrant was so we could save a couple seconds." The team was made up of past military members and first responders. Even though they aren't active duty, their instincts never left, Bohannon said. Tragic doesn't describe how truly traumatic the crash was, Bohannon said. The Nine Line team said they want the victims' families to know they did their best to help where they could. "I don't think there is any way to make it easier," Bohannon said. "Hopefully knowing that there were a group of human beings who cared and love people unconditionally no matter what we were responding to, hopefully that gives some peace." Bohannon also shared a message to his team who jumped into action. "Proud of them," Bohannon said. "It means the world to me to get to person at a company like this. It is part of our culture that when there is a need, we drop everything we do. Our shirts, the hoodies, all that stuff is a tool in our shed to provide to our community. Bohannon said if any of the victims of family members have any questions or want to talk they can reach out.
