Testimony: Former Warren cop drove 117 mph without lights, siren in fatal accident
A former police officer faced court allegations for driving at a speed of 117 miles per hour, resulting in a crash that led to the deaths of two individuals. The families of the victims were deeply affected as they watched the footage of the tragic incident in court. The attorney representing them expressed how difficult it was for the families and anyone witnessing the footage. Video evidence showed the ex-officer speeding down Schoenherr before colliding with the victims' car as it attempted to turn left. The impact caused the victims' vehicle to travel more than 50 feet in the air. The officer faced charges of manslaughter and misdemeanors, with his attorney raising concerns about the accident reconstruction presented in court. The prosecution argued that the police vehicle was traveling at almost three times the posted speed limit without using lights or a siren. Despite suggestions that the victims' left turn may have been a civil infraction, it was emphasized that they had no way to avoid the crash. The preliminary hearing will continue, with the defense set to call two more witnesses when the court reconvenes on July 30th.
