Teen killed, 2 injured in Aiken County crash
The Aiken County Coroner’s Office is investigating a crash that claimed the life of an Aiken teenager. Officials said the collision happened around 5:45 p.m. at the intersection of South Hankinson Street and Atomic Road and involved a 2026 Polaris side-by-side utility vehicle and a 2020 Nissan Sentra. The coroner’s office identified the victim as 15-year-old Axel K. Ulteig. Authorities said Ulteig was one of three passengers inside the Polaris vehicle, which tried to cross Atomic Road on Hankinson Street when it was hit by the sedan traveling east on Atomic Road. Ulteig was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:05 p.m. from injuries in the crash, according to authorities. Two other passengers of the Polaris were injured and taken to a local hospital, officials said. The driver of the Nissan Sentra was alone. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed in Newberry. The collision remains under investigation by the coroner’s office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
