State trooper dies in Upstate crash, 2 airlifted. Coroner confirms.

An incident occurred in Anderson County, South Carolina, resulting in the tragic death of a retired South Carolina State Trooper. The crash, which involved two vehicles, took place on Whitehall Road at Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Emergency services responded to the scene after receiving a call around noon. Three individuals were initially trapped in a vehicle, with two being airlifted to Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital, while the third unfortunately passed away at the scene. The deceased victim has been identified as 58-year-old retired South Carolina State Trooper Charles Coggins. The preliminary findings suggest that Coggins was a passenger in a 1967 Pontiac GTO that was struck on the passenger side by a Jeep Grand Cherokee. The investigation is being conducted by the Anderson County Coroner's Office, City of Anderson Police Department, and the South Carolina Highway Patrol Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team.
