State rests in trial of woman charged in fatal DUI crash in Jackson
JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) - The state rested its case on Thursday against a woman, who was charged in connection to a drunk driving crash that killed two people in Jackson. Defense attorneys for Jada Kelly motioned for a mistrial, but Judge Debra Gibbs denied the motion. Kelly was charged with aggravated DUI. The crash occurred around 3:00 a.m. on January 15, 2024, at the intersection of Interstate 55 North Frontage Road and Canton Mart Road. Police said Azure Higgins, 46, and Valerie Lynch, 43, were killed in the crash. Investigators said Kelly had a blood alcohol level of 0.18. The legal limit is 0.08.
