State of emergency declared in Kentucky following UPS plane crash

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear announced on Wednesday that the death toll from a UPS cargo plane crash near Louisville's Muhammad Ali International Airport has increased to 11 people, including a child. The focus has shifted from rescue to recovery, with the National Transportation Safety Board confirming the recovery of the black box. Search and recovery efforts will continue for at least a week due to the extensive debris field, with at least 16 families reporting missing loved ones. Two patients remain hospitalized in critical condition from the crash, with ongoing caution advised for residents in the vicinity regarding tap water consumption. The airport is operational, with flights being rerouted to another runway, as investigations by the NTSB and FAA begin. UPS expressed deep sorrow over the incident and confirmed the presence of three crew members onboard. The scene is anticipated to remain hazardous in the coming days as safety protocols are established for the investigation.
