Standoff at 26th and Ogden after Cicero collision; 1 arrest made

An immigration enforcement operation in Chicago's Little Village neighborhood led to a confrontation in Cicero on Wednesday morning. Community leaders in Chicago criticized federal agents for not considering the safety of the public during the raids in Little Village and Cicero, accusing them of causing fear in the community. The authorities detained at least seven individuals, including U.S. citizens, during the operation. Local leaders and response groups swiftly arrived at the scene to address the situation. At one point, a vehicle collision occurred between federal agents and a civilian vehicle near Cermak Fresh Market. The incident eventually escalated into a standoff in Cicero, where a spokesman clarified that the crash involved two civilian vehicles, not a U.S. Customs and Border Protection car as initially reported. Following the crash, tensions rose between federal agents and the community, with CBP Commander Gregory Bovino present at the scene. Cicero police are handling the crash investigation, while Border Patrol is investigating an alleged attempt to ram their vehicle. Additional details on the incident and the detained individual are pending a response from CBP.
