Spartanburg Co. road reopens following fatal crash

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) - A fatal crash closed a portion of Old Furnace Road Tuesday morning in Boiling Springs. The Boiling Springs Fire Department of Spartanburg reported around 6:00 a.m. that officials responded to the incident. The road was closed for almost three hours from Sugar Ridge Road to Elmwood while responders investigated the crash. The SC Highway Patrol reported that a 1998 Honda was traveling east on Old Furnace Road when it went off the right side of the road, overcorrected and traveled back on the road. Troopers said when the Honda traveled back on the road, it crossed the center line and was then hit on its passenger side by a 2021 Toyota pickup truck. The driver of the pickup truck was reported not injured, according to troopers. The driver of the Honda passed away at the scene. The Spartanburg County Coroner's Office has not identified the victim at this time. The crash remains under investigation by the SCHP.
