Sheriff attributes fatal head-on collision in Madison County to impaired driver
In Markleville, Indiana, an 18-year-old man named Aidan Patterson, who was impaired, allegedly caused a fatal crash by crossing into the opposite lane and colliding head-on with 56-year-old Nancy Staley's Jeep. Staley tragically lost her life in the accident. Patterson, from Anderson, was arrested by Madison County Sheriff's deputies on several charges, including operating a vehicle while intoxicated, causing death, obstruction of justice, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana. The collision occurred at 6:30 a.m. on Thursday near State Road 109 and County Road 200 East. Patterson was driving a 2019 Chevy Silverado and crossed the centerline, crashing into Staley's Jeep Wrangler. Staley was thrown from her vehicle and died as a result. Despite being unharmed, Patterson was found to be under the influence of a controlled substance at the time of the crash, not alcohol. If the charges against him result in a Level 3 felony conviction, Patterson could face a prison sentence of up to 16 years.
