Sentence delayed for Jana Giron in 2019 fatal accident retrial
During a proceeding at the Pima County Superior Court on Monday, the sentencing of Jana Giron, who was convicted in a 2019 crash resulting in the death of two young adults, was postponed after a wait of close to an hour. The hearing, originally set for 11 a.m., was rescheduled by Judge Christopher Browning for the following Monday, June 16. More than 80 individuals, including friends and relatives of the victims, were present in the courtroom to hear the decision. Earlier, Giron was convicted of negligent homicide in a retrial, having initially faced charges including manslaughter, criminal damage, and endangerment for the incident that claimed the lives of Caitlin Festerling and Paul Garcia, aged 21 and 22 respectively. A mistrial was declared in 2024 on most charges, but Giron was convicted of tampering with evidence and placed on three years of probation with 300 hours of community service in December. She was acquitted of criminal damage in the latest trial.
