Semi truck driver killed after fiery crash: OSHP
MILTON TWP., Ohio (WKBN) -- The Ohio State Highway Patrol was at the scene of a fatal crash Thursday afternoon. Troopers were called to I-76 at mile marker 52 in Milton Township shortly after 1:30 p.m. According to a release from OSHP, a dump truck was traveling westbound on I-76 in the right lane, with a freightliner traveling behind. The release said the dump truck slowed due to other traffic and was struck in the rear by the freightliner. The dump truck was pushed partially onto the shoulder of the highway, and the impact caused the freightliner to become engulfed in fire, the release said. The dump truck driver was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries. The driver of the freightliner was pronounced dead at the scene. I-76 westbound was closed for about three hours after the crash but has since reopened. The release says drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash. It remains under investigation with OSHP.
