Search underway after crash at local marina
LORAIN, Ohio (WJW) -- Authorities are searching Lake Erie early after a report that a vehicle crashed into the water with three people inside. DroneFOX Friday morning sent back images of divers investigating a dark-colored sedan that had been partially pulled from the marina. The crash reportedly happened at about 4:15 a.m. Friday, March 6, at West Erie and Oak Point Road at the Beaver Park Marina. Police said Lorain officers responded to reports of a downed utility pole. While investigating, an 18-year-old man told police that he was a passenger in the backseat of a vehicle that crashed into Lake Erie after hitting a utility pole. According to the teen, there was a female driver and another female passenger. The man told police he escaped through the backseat window. He was taken to the hospital for treatment “for injuries believed to have been sustained during the crash.” The Lorain Police Department’s Traffic Investigation Unit has been called to examine the circumstances of the crash, while the department’s Underwater Recovery Team is actively searching the lake for a vehicle and anyone who is unaccounted for. The coroner's office told FOX 8 it is responding to the scene.
