School bus crashes into Goldsboro bridge; 6 students, driver taken to hospitals, police say

GOLDSBORO, N.C. (WNCN) — Several injured students and a driver were sent to area hospitals after a school bus crash in Goldsboro on Thursday afternoon, police said. According to the Goldsboro Police Department, officers responded around 4 p.m. to a call about a crash involving a school bus into a bridge on North Carolina Street near the intersection with West Vine Street. When police arrived, they found that a bus from Dillard Charter Academy had crashed. Nine students were on the bus along with the driver and an adult bus monitor, police said. Six students were taken to UNC Health Wayne with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. The bus driver was airlifted to the ECU Medical Center in Greenville. Video from the scene taken by a bystander shows the front of the bus crushed against the top of a railroad bridge, with part of the vehicle wedged into a support beam. Police said no additional information is available at the time of publication.
