
Sailboat collides with barge near Miami Beach, resulting in sinking and 6 hospitalized
Six individuals, an adult woman and five children, were rescued from the water close to Star Island in Miami Beach after their sailboat was hit by a barge. This incident involving two vessels occurred on Monday morning, as confirmed by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR). An FWC representative stated that all six victims were retrieved and taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Among them, three youngsters were admitted in critical condition, as reported by local news outlet WSVN, while one was in stable condition. The ages of the children range from eight to twelve years old. The MDFR responded to a distress call about a sunken vessel with missing occupants at 11:14 a.m., and with assistance from Miami Beach Fire and City of Miami Fire Rescue, successfully located all individuals. The FWC is conducting an investigation into the boating accident.
