Rutland County man killed in car crash

ORWELL, Vt. (NEWS10) -- A Rutland County man is dead, and another is seriously injured, following a car crash in Orwell on Sunday, according to Vermont State Police. Vermont State Police were dispatched to the scene just after 5:30 p.m. following reports of a single-car crash with injuries. Upon arrival, troopers reportedly found both occupants entrapped as the car was pressed against several trees. Members of the Orwell Fire Department were able to extricate both the driver and passenger. The passenger, identified as 28-year-old Michael Guess of Brandon, was declared dead at the scene, police said. The driver was reportedly taken by helicopter to UVM Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
