Roanoke man charged with involuntary manslaughter, hit and run after fatal crash
A Roanoke man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and felony hit and run following a fatal crash on Memorial Day. Officers responded to the intersection of Lafayette Boulevard and Melrose Avenue NW just before 11:30 a.m. for the report of a two-vehicle crash. When they got to the scene, officers found an unoccupied Chevy Equinox and two injured people inside a Honda Civic. Both were taken to a hospital for treatment. SEE ALSO: Lynchburg police arrest robbery suspect after help from citizens The driver of the Civic, identified as 30-year-old Jose Saenz Ventura, of Roanoke, died from his injuries, according to police. The passenger was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. RPD said both the driver and the passenger of the Equinox ran from the scene of the crash and were found a short time later in the 900 block of Crescent Street NW. The driver, 42-year-old Kenneth Lynn Campbell, Jr. was arrested. According to police, the initial investigation determined that the Civic was headed south on Lafayette Boulevard with the green light to turn left onto Melrose Avenue when the Equinox ran the red light at Melrose and hit the Civic.
