Reopening of Powers and Fountain after deadly SUV collision
In Colorado Springs, a tragic two-vehicle collision occurred at the Powers and Fountain intersection early Sunday morning. CSPD received reports of the incident around 4:30 a.m. Upon arrival, authorities discovered two individuals had lost their lives at the scene, while two others in the same vehicle sustained life-threatening injuries and were promptly transported to the hospital. The driver of the second vehicle also suffered injuries and was hospitalized for treatment. The Major Crash Team assumed control of the investigation, revealing that a black SUV traveling northbound on Powers attempted to make a left turn onto Fountain, resulting in a collision with a southbound blue SUV on Powers. The details of the investigation are still being processed. Fortunately, COTrip has confirmed that the crash site has been cleared, and traffic flow has resumed at the intersection. CSPD released a statement at 5 a.m. indicating a closure of all traffic lanes in both directions along East Fountain Boulevard and South Powers Boulevard. Regrettably, two fatalities were reported, and three individuals were hospitalized following the incident, with their current conditions remaining undisclosed. To facilitate traffic management, all lanes on both Powers and Fountain are shut down, with the closure extending from Aeroplaza Drive to Powers. Motorists are urged to consider alternative routes to avoid the impacted area.
