Police officer hurt in winter crash
A Winter Haven police officer was hurt in an early morning collision involving two vehicles. At around 2 a.m., the 23-year-old officer was responding to an emergency call and traveling east on Cypress Gardens Blvd. When the officer's Tahoe reached the intersection at 1st Street South, a 21-year-old man from Winter Haven driving a Honda Accord sped south on 1st St. S and collided with the police vehicle's driver-side door. Both drivers sustained serious injuries and were transported to Lakeland Regional Health for treatment. The Florida Highway Patrol is looking into the incident, with potential charges pending against the Winter Haven man.
