Police: Family of crash victim threatened by armed man
Baltimore County police arrested a Timonium man after an alleged confrontation and assault in which he's accused of flashing a gun in Cockeysville.Imtiaz Sami, 39, was arrested and charged with assault and a gun offense stemming from an incident on May 31 in the 2400 block of Burlwood Road, according to police.Police said officers arrived shortly before 6 p.m. and were told that Sami allegedly pointed a gun at the victim before fleeing. Police said investigators were captured and arrested Sami a short time later. He remains held without bond at the Baltimore County Detention Center. According to police charging documents obtained by WBAL-TV 11 News, Sami is accused of driving around the neighborhood looking for the victims. A confrontation started with the victims as Sami reportedly said, "I just want you to know, the kid living on the corner, he's a piece of (expletive). He's a drunk and gets other kids to speed. It's a shame he got to survive this."The victims told police that this incident stemmed from a tragic crash that saw two teens die in Phoenix. The son of one of the victims was one of the survivors who had just returned home on Friday. Sami had reportedly made rude comments on Facebook about the crash.Police said Sami drove to another house and was asked to leave the neighborhood. The charging documents allege Sami continued the confrontation, despite being asked to leave multiple times.The police report states that Sami then made a comment to the victims, saying, "You don't want to mess with me; I'm armed." The documents allege Sami reached onto the floor of his car and pulled out a semiautomatic handgun.The victims said Sami pulled back the slide on the handgun, making an audible click, and then pointed the weapon at them. The victim told police he believed he was about to be shot and put his hands up and quickly began to back up toward the home. Police said Sami then sped off and left the neighborhood. Witnesses were able to take a picture of the vehicle as Sami left and provided police with a license plate number. Officers were able to use the plate and determine an address for the car's registrant. Police said officers went to the location and found the vehicle described in the assault and were able to take Sami into custody without incident. Police executed a search warrant at the house and found 15 different firearms along with several types of ammunition. Sami is facing multiple charges including first- and second-degree assault as well as use of a firearm in a violent crime.The victims told police that their children go to the same school as Sami's children, and that they did not know him outside of the comments on Facebook.
