Police attribute crash outside Manchester Market Basket to vehicle malfunction

A collision occurred in the Market Basket parking lot on Elm Street in Manchester on Tuesday, resulting in severe damages to several vehicles. A driver reported that a mechanical issue with her Toyota Highlander caused it to collide with five parked cars around 9:20 a.m. Witness Joshua Richey estimated the speed of the incident to be around 40 mph, describing how the SUV became airborne and struck multiple vehicles. The Toyota's driver, Fiordaliz Lopez, from Methuen, Massachusetts, explained that her attempts to brake were futile as the vehicle accelerated uncontrollably. Fortunately, two individuals were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, while a minor in one of the stationary cars was unharmed. Lopez's SUV was declared a total loss. Manchester Police seek information regarding the accident and can be reached at 603-668-8711.
