Plane hit trees before fatal crash in Hamilton County, NTSB says
The NTSB is releasing new details about a fatal plane crash in the Adirondack Park earlier this month. The crash happened on July 12 near the Piseco Airport. It was one of three aircraft to crash in the Adirondacks in a single week. According to the preliminary report from the NTSB, the Cessna 182J, N43TB, crashed around 7:09 p.m. The flight was classified as a personal flight. The pilot was the only person on the aircraft. Airport security video showed the airplane approaching the runway before it bounced and started to porpoise. The NTSB said the plane bounced three times before it climbed and banked to the left, then disappeared from the video frame. Another security camera on airport property showed the airplane hitting trees. The wreckage was located in dense woods near the runway, but the plane had been consumed by fire. According to the NTSB, the pilot held a private certificate with more than 1,000 recorded flight hours. He purchased the plane in February of 2026, which had been modified to support a new flap system, add a new stabilizer, and turn the airplane at slow speeds.
