Plane crash lands in Ventura County riverbed
A single-engine airplane crash landed in a Ventura County riverbed, east of the Santa Paula airport Saturday. The pilot was the only person aboard the plane when it made the emergency landing around 1 p.m., according to the Ventura County Fire Department. “Firefighters made access from the ground and air simultaneously and located the male patient who had self extricated,” Ventura County Fire said. The injured pilot was flown to the Santa Paula Airport by helicopter, where he was loaded onto an ambulance and taken to a local hospital. The pilot suffered minor injuries and is in stable condition, according to Ventura County Fire. Photos of the scene show wheels broken off the plane and skidmarks in the dry riverbed from the crash landing. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the crash. The NTSB and the FAA are assisting in the investigation.
