Pickup truck driver killed in crash involving school bus in Marlborough; no students seriously hurt

Route 12 in Marlborough was closed Friday morning after a deadly crash involving a school bus and a pickup truck.The crash happened around 7:15 a.m.New Hampshire State Police confirmed the driver of the pickup truck has died. Authorities said none of the children on the bus were seriously injured.The Monadnock Regional School District superintendent confirmed the bus was carrying 13 students from the Regional Middle-High School. He said it was the Fitzwilliam bus."The students were evaluated by emergency personnel at the scene and were determined to be safe and in stable condition," Superintendent Jeremy Rathbun said. "They were then transported to Cheshire Medical Center to be assessed and treated for minor injuries."Rathbun said the bus driver suffered injures that were not considered to be life-threatening.Due to the number of injuries involved in the crash, firefighters declared a mass casualty incident, which brought in additional resources. Ambulances from Walpole, Winchester, Peterborough, Jaffrey and Golden Cross responded to the scene. New Hampshire State Police said a section of Route 12 in the area of Webb Depot Road is expected to be closed for several hours. Drivers are urged to avoid the area as State Police continue to investigate what led to the crash.
