Person dies after I-83 crash involving tractor-trailer, coroner says

We now know one person is dead after a crash involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 83 in York County, according to the coroner's office. A tractor-trailer and an SUV collided in the southbound lanes near the PA Welcome Center in Shrewsbury Township at 4:49 a.m. Wednesday. The scene is near the Windy Hill Road overpass. PennDOT said a medical helicopter was called and airlifted one person from the SUV to the hospital.According to the coroner, a male was pronounced dead at York Hospital. His identity has not yet been released. A stretch of Interstate 83 was closed in both directions between Exit 4, Route 851/Stewartstown, and the Maryland state line. Traffic was at a standstill for several hours.The interstate has since reopened. The incident remains under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police.
