Passerby reports early morning fatal Adams County crash

ADAMS COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - The Adams County Sheriff's Office was made aware of a single-vehicle crash after a passerby reported the incident. According to a press release from the agency, at about 4:07 a.m. on Wednesday, ACSO responded to a crash involving one car near the intersection of S 000 Road and Covered Bridge Road in Geneva, Indiana. The crash was reported by a 23-year-old Geneva resident, who said that he did not witness the accident, but noticed a car in a field with an unresponsive man in the passenger seat. After the investigation, police identified the man as Nathan Clayman, 61, of Geneva, Indiana, and he was pronounced dead by the Adams County Coroner on scene. Police determined that Clayman was driving south on S 000 Road when he lost control of the car near the intersection of Covered Bridge Road and struck a guard rail, coming to a stop in a nearby field just east of the intersection. The impact of the crash caused Clayman to be ejected through the car's passenger-side window. Police noticed that the car's airbags had not deployed on impact, and seat belts were not secured at the time of the crash. Alcohol or drugs were determined not to be a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation, and police are working to determine why the driver lost control.
