Passenger pinned to seat by road debris near Deer Creek Reservoir.
A young woman was seriously injured after a piece of rebar or concrete stake crashed through the front windshield of a car she was in near Deer Creek Reservoir. The incident caused a temporary closure of both lanes on US-189 as emergency responders provided assistance at the scene. The woman, seated in the front of the vehicle, was impaled in the chest by the stake, trapping her in the front seat. After receiving initial treatment, she was transferred to Utah Valley Hospital in serious to critical condition. The authorities are seeking information on the incident and have requested witnesses to contact Summit County's non-emergency dispatch line. Fortunately, the highway was reopened for traffic about an hour and fifteen minutes after the accident.
