Passenger dies after two-car crash in southwest Las Vegas, driver faces DUI charge

A passenger has died from injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash in southwest Las Vegas on Wednesday, according to police. The crash happened around 5:13 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, on Warm Springs Road near Montessouri Street, west of Rainbow Boulevard, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said in a statement. Investigators believe that a 2020 Toyota Sienna minivan and a 2021 Tesla Model Y were both heading east on Warm Springs. The Toyota crossed into the westbound lanes and then veered back into the eastbound side, resulting in a collision. Several hours later, however, her condition deteriorated rapidly and she died from her injuries at UMC, according to LVMPD. Her death marks the 53rd traffic-related fatality in LVMPD's jurisdiction so far this year. Both drivers stayed at the scene. Police say the Toyota's driver, 73-year-old Calvin Hayashi, allegedly showed signs of impairment and was booked into Clark County Detention Center. Court records indicate Hayashi is facing charges of felony DUI resulting in death and misdemeanor failure to drive on correct side of street. An initial appearance is scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
