Overturned semi crash blocks lanes on I-95 near Yamato Road, causing Memorial Day traffic
A crash involving an overturned semi-truck caused major traffic backups in both directions of Interstate 95 early Monday morning near Yamato Road in Boca Raton, according to the Florida Highway Patrol and Florida 511. FHP reported the crash with injuries happened near mile marker 48, just north of Yamato Road. Authorities said both northbound and southbound lanes were impacted as emergency crews responded to the scene overnight. Traffic cameras and images from the scene showed the semi-truck overturned on its side across portions of the highway. As of about 3:20 a.m., Florida 511 reported three left lanes blocked on I-95 northbound before the Yamato Road exit. On the southbound side, two left lanes were blocked beyond Exit 48, with Road Rangers and emergency crews working in the area. Officials have not released information about how many people were hurt or what may have caused the crash. The crash was already causing significant backups before sunrise, and delays were expected to worsen throughout the morning as travelers returned home from the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Drivers were urged to slow down, move over for emergency crews, and expect delays in the Boca Raton area on Monday morning. As of 4:40 a.m. Monday, traffic is slowly starting to get back to normal. Southbound Lanes are open, but it is down to 2 lanes. Northbound lanes are all open. The crash remains under investigation. CBS12 News is on the scene and reached out to FHP for more information.
