Ohio state trooper hurt in state Route 2 head-on crash released from hospital

(WJW) -- The Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper involved in a fiery, head-on crash Friday evening, June 19, on state Route 2 has been released from the hospital, FOX 8 News has learned. The crash happened just before 9 p.m. near the state Route 44 exit in Painesville Township, FOX 8 News previously reported. Authorities said the trooper's marked vehicle was struck head-on by another vehicle going the wrong direction in the westbound lanes. That vehicle then caught fire. The driver of the other vehicle, identified as 61-year-old Jerry Alberico, of Mentor, was killed in the crash. The trooper was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A statement from a patrol spokesperson issued to FOX 8 News on Monday reads: "The crash remains under investigation. The trooper has been released from the hospital and is recovering."
