Officials confirm two deaths after crash on Riverwatch Parkway

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) - The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is currently on scene of a traffic fatality on Riverwatch Parkway in Augusta. According to the sheriff's office on Monday, authorities located a vehicle that left the roadway and went down the embankment towards Goodrich Street. Officials said that a preliminary investigation shows the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck a guardrail before overturning. The Richmond County Coroner's Office said the male driver was ejected from the vehicle and a female passenger was located inside. Both were pronounced dead at 5:56 p.m. on April 20. Investigators said the crash is believed to have occurred on the evening of April 18, 2026. Identities of the deceased will be released once the next of kin has been notified. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the right lane to westbound Riverwatch Parkway as it will be closed while the investigation continues.
