Officer reassigned after car accident injuring three.
An Erie police officer is currently assigned to administrative duties following his involvement in a traffic incident reported by traffic investigator Sergeant Thomas Dunmire. The event occurred at the corner of West 11th and Sassafras streets on Friday, September 12. According to Dumire, the officer was responding with emergency lights activated, but no siren, when he collided with a car and a pedestrian. During the crash, three individuals sustained injuries: the officer with minor injuries, the car driver in critical but stable condition, and the homeless pedestrian with a fractured right leg. The incident is under investigation by Erie and state police, as well as the Erie County District Attorney's office, with no charges brought forward at this time.
