NYPD officers captured on surveillance video leaving fatal accident

Recently, there have been allegations that two New York City police officers were captured on surveillance footage leaving the scene of a fatal accident in northern Manhattan earlier this year. The incident took place in Inwood around 4 a.m. on April 2, where a driver crashed and his vehicle caught fire. The video shows a driver speeding down the Dyckman Street exit off the Henry Hudson Parkway southbound, followed by an NYPD police cruiser that takes the exit but makes a left at the end of the ramp, seemingly leaving the scene. Firefighters later arrived to extinguish the flames. The family of Francisco Andres Guzman Parra, who tragically died in the crash, expressed their anguish upon viewing the footage for the first time. They believe the officers acted as "judge, jury, and executioner" by not assisting Guzman Parra. The family's attorney cited a delay in emergency crews arriving at the scene and emphasized the need for immediate medical attention. Guzman Parra's family shared that he had come to the U.S. from the Dominican Republic as a child and was likely undocumented, leading them to believe he may have been fleeing from law enforcement. While police maintain Guzman Parra was speeding in a stolen vehicle, his family emphasizes the importance of providing timely assistance rather than leaving him to perish. The NYPD has suspended the two officers involved with pay, pending further investigation by the force investigation division.
