Multiple people injured in car accident in Merced County
A car accident left multiple people injured after three people were ejected from one of the cars on Friday. CHP responded to a car accident on Highway 152 near the Romero Visitor Center a bit before 10 a.m. A preliminary investigation found an 18-year-old was driving a 1999 BMW coupe westbound on Highway 152 at an unknown speed. A 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by a 19-year-old with four passengers, was also traveling westbound at an unknown speed. For reasons still under investigation, the BMW driver lost control, entered the center median, spun back into the westbound lanes, and collided with the Tahoe, according to investigators. The Tahoe then crashed into the center median guardrail. Three passengers in the Tahoe were ejected because they were not wearing seat belts, authorities said. Four occupants suffered moderate to major injuries and were taken by AMR Ambulance to local Modesto hospitals. Alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash, according to investigators.
