Multi-vehicle collision follows GSP pursuit in DeKalb County

Multiple individuals were hurt following a pursuit by the Georgia State Patrol in DeKalb County that resulted in a collision involving multiple vehicles on Wednesday night. The pursuit commenced in the evening at around 7:15 p.m. on Redan Road close to South Indian Creek Road. The Georgia State Patrol reported that troopers were in the vicinity searching for a stolen Kia K4 when one of the troopers noticed the vehicle exiting a gas station and tried to pull it over. The driver of the Kia failed to comply, leading to a chase. The Kia veered into the oncoming lanes near Mill Lake Drive as it traveled west on Redan Road. This action resulted in a collision with a Nissan moving in the correct direction, causing the Nissan to cross the median into the eastbound lanes directly in front of a trooper pursuing the Kia. As a result, the Kia struck three additional cars. A trooper involved in the pursuit hit the bumper of the Nissan during the incident. Troopers rescued the Nissan driver from the vehicle and ensured the well-being of the other motorists. Firefighters were called to free the entrapped driver of the Kia. Subsequently, four individuals were transported to a medical facility. Both the Kia and Nissan drivers sustained severe injuries, while the other two individuals were treated for minor injuries by medical personnel. The Georgia State Patrol's Special Collision Reconstruction Team is currently investigating the crash. The identity of the Kia driver has not been disclosed, and the possible charges they may face remain unknown.
