Motorcyclist killed in crash at Jones and Oakey, police advise avoiding the area
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A 48-year-old man on a motorcycle was killed in a collision just before 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Las Vegas Metro police said. The crash occurred near the intersection of Jones Boulevard and West Oakey Boulevard and caused traffic delays in the area for several hours. Evidence at the crash scene indicated that a 2020 Kia Telluride, a 2025 Harley-Davidson Road Glide, and a 2016 Jeep Renegade were all eastbound on West Oakey Boulevard approaching the intersection with South Verde Jardin Way. The Kia and the Harley-Davidson came to a stop due to eastbound stopped traffic. A collision occurred when the Jeep failed to use due care and reduce speed while approaching the stopped vehicles. The action caused the front of the Jeep to strike the Harley-Davidson’s rear, projecting it and its rider southeast, resulting in the rider’s total ejection. Immediately after the collision with the Harley-Davidson, the Jeep collided with the rear of the Kia. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Traffic restrictions reopen around 10 p.m. The driver of the Kia sustained minor injuries, as did one of the two juvenile passengers. The driver of the Jeep remained at the scene of the collision, sustained no injury, and showed signs of impairment. He was subsequently arrested for DUI-related charges. The motorcyclist’s death marks the 36th traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction for the year 2026. The collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD’s Collision Investigation Section.
