Motorcyclist dead after crash on Clinton Highway
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A motorcyclist was killed Monday in a crash on Clinton Highway at Tillery Drive, a Knoxville Police Department spokesperson announced. Just after 11:15 a.m. Monday, KPD posted about the crash, asking the public to avoid the area of the intersection and seek alternate routes if possible. A KPD spokesperson said the preliminary investigation indicated that a westbound SUV began to proceed through the intersection once the light turned green when the motorcyclist, a 67-year-old man, allegedly ran the red light and struck the side of the SUV. The motorcyclist was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported. The spokesperson added that the SUV struck another vehicle after the collision, causing minor damage. The crash remains under investigation by the KPD crash reconstruction personnel. This is the third motorcycle crash in Knoxville in the past three days. On April 18, KPD responded to the crash involving a motorcycle and a car on Clinton Highway at Treemont Drive that left one person dead, and on April 19, a 16-year-old motorcyclist crashed on I-40, losing both feet.
