Mother battles to uphold anti-drunk driving law after son's life-altering crash

A mother from Western New York is bringing her personal tragedy to Washington D.C. to advocate for the HALT drunk driving law, which requires anti-drunk driving technology in vehicles. Holly Dawson, whose son Zackery was severely injured by a drunk driver, will attend the 45th anniversary event of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) to support this legislation. The event will include demonstrations of technology aimed at preventing drunk driving incidents and a candlelight vigil. The tragedy that befell Zackery in 2022 has motivated Dawson to push for this cause, despite the significant impact it had on their lives. Zackery, who uses a wheelchair due to the accident, continues his recovery journey with the goal of eventually walking. Dawson encourages others affected by drunk driving to join her in Capitol Hill for the two-day event, featuring various activities aimed at raising awareness and advocating for safer roads.
