More deaths from car crashes than homicides in Fresno this year
In Fresno, the total number of car accident fatalities has surpassed that of homicides this year. While the city has made progress in reducing homicide rates over the years, with numbers dropping from 74 in 2020 to 30 in 2024, the focus has now shifted to addressing the rising issue of fatal car crashes. According to Fresno Police Sergeant Jeremy Maffei, there have been 43 deaths on the roads in Fresno in 2025, compared to 20 homicides. Of these fatalities, 26 were pedestrians struck by vehicles. Maffei emphasized the importance of making changes to prevent further tragedies. In Clovis, police are also concerned as two people have died in accidents this year, one pedestrian and one bicyclist. The police are taking steps to combat issues such as driving under the influence and addressing the increasing problem of E-bikes and E-scooters in the area.
