Monkeys flee following Mississippi accident
A truck transporting 21 monkeys to a Florida testing facility overturned in Jasper County, Mississippi. Six Rhesus monkeys from Tulane University escaped during the accident. Sadly, five of the escaped monkeys had to be euthanized. The sheriff's office is working with an animal disposal company to manage the situation, and authorities are still searching for the one remaining monkey. Residents are advised not to approach the escaped monkey but to call 911 if spotted. The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks is involved, and Tulane University plans to retrieve the surviving monkeys. The university assured that the monkeys are not carrying any infectious diseases and are used for scientific research at the Tulane National Biomedical Research Center. Collaborating with local authorities, the university will send a team to provide assistance as needed.
