Mercy Flight transports man to ECMC following ambulance crash in Niagara County
The Niagara County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating a collision involving an ambulance in the Town of Pendleton, which took place on Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. at the crossing of Mapleton and Townline Roads. According to initial reports, an ambulance was heading east on Mapleton Road to respond to a service call when it collided with a vehicle traveling north on Wheatfield-Pendleton Townline Road that failed to yield the right of way at the intersection. Following the collision, both vehicles moved across the intersection, with the ambulance hitting a 16-year-old pedestrian walking on the shoulder of Mapleton Road. The vehicles eventually came to a stop in a ditch. The driver of the vehicle struck by the ambulance, a 42-year-old man, was airlifted by Mercy Flight to ECMC for severe injuries, while the pedestrian was taken by ambulance to ECMC for minor injuries. The two crew members in the ambulance were assessed at the scene and later discharged. At present, the identities of those involved have not been disclosed.
