Menomonee Falls police chase ends in crash, paralyzing two passengers

A high-speed police chase in Menomonee Falls early on Memorial Day ended with a crash that paralyzed two passengers and led to the arrest of the driver, who was already facing charges for driving without a license. The crash occurred at Fond du Lac Avenue and Country Club Drive after a Menomonee Falls police officer attempted to pull over a Jeep with no license plates. According to the criminal complaint, the driver, 24-year-old Lenieya Jones of Milwaukee, refused to stop, possibly because she has two open cases in Milwaukee County for repeatedly driving without a license. The pursuit lasted less than two minutes, with the Jeep reaching speeds of 93 mph before veering off the road and slamming into a tree. "Speeds are 78 and climbing. Blew the stop sign at Main," an officer said during the chase. The Jeep's lights went out just before the crash. "They just blacked out. 10-50, 10-50, 10-50," the officer said, referring to the crash. Video from the scene revealed a mangled vehicle with deployed airbags. According to the complaint, two male passengers in the Jeep were thrown from the vehicle and are now paralyzed. Mike Powell, whose mailbox was destroyed in the crash, said police immediately searched the area for other passengers. "They didn't know how many were in the car. My kid said they all had M16s with flashlights," Powell said. According to the criminal complaint, Jones initially claimed she had switched seats and was not driving, alleging the actual driver was missing. However, police did not find another person during their search, and prosecutors do not believe anyone else was behind the wheel."I mean, she lost the car and crippled two people. That's unreal," Powell said. "Why would somebody take off? Just because she doesn't have a driver's license?" Jones was out on a signature bond at the time of the crash for her two Milwaukee County cases involving driving without a license.
