NORWICH — A man was killed in a crash on Interstate 395 north that prompted traffic to be diverted off the highway in Norwich last week, Connecticut State Police said. The driver in the single-car crash on April 21 was identified as 78-year-old Jacques Bertheau, of Brockton, Massachusetts, according to police. Police said the crash occurred near the Exit 18 off-ramp around 10:48 p.m. Police said Bertheau, who was driving a 2004 Nissan Xterra, struck the Lawler Lane overpass in the right shoulder before going off the roadway. Bertheau was the SUV's only occupant and was transported to Backus Hospital with serious injuries, police said. He then was transported to Hartford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. Police said the fatal crash remains under investigation. Correction: This story and headline have been changed to reflect that a Massachusetts man was killed in the crash.
