Man imprisoned for fatal turnpike crash
SANDUSKY — A Chicago man was recently sentenced for causing a fatal crash on the Ohio Turnpike in 2024. Victor Dominquez-Olivan, 48, pleaded guilty to one fourth-degree felony count of aggravated vehicular assault. The charge was amended from third-degree felony aggravated vehicular assault, according to court records. In exchange for his plea, the state dropped one count of aggravated vehicular homicide, a second-degree felony, and two misdemeanor counts of OVI. On Feb. 24, Erie County Common Pleas Court Judge Beverly McGookey sentenced Dominquez-Olivan to six months in prison. He was given seven days of jail time credit. His driver's license was suspended for two years, dating back to August 2024. Dominquez-Olivan faces up to two years of post-release control. He was ordered to pay all court costs. He was also ordered to forfeit his vehicle. The crash Just before 6 a.m. on Aug. 18, 2024, the Milan post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to a crash near milepost 112 in Oxford Township. That is 6 miles west of the U.S. 250 exit and two miles east of the Ohio 4 exit. A 2007 Ford Focus driven by Manuel Alvarez-Loreto, of Cleveland, was in the right-hand lane and was slowing/stopped, according to a state patrol media release. Dominquez-Olivan then allegedly rear-ended the Focus in his 2009 Ford Fusion, according to troopers. Both Alvarez-Loreto and Dominquez-Olivan, as well as Alvarez-Loreto's passenger, were wearing their seatbelts. All three were transported to a Norwalk hospital, where Alvarez-Loreto succumbed to his injuries, according to troopers.
