Man from Independence charged by Jackson County prosecutors in fatal DWI collision
An Independence man has been charged by prosecutors in connection with a deadly drunk driving accident that occurred last weekend, resulting in one fatality and two injuries. Mason McIntyre is facing charges of driving under the influence leading to death and second-degree assault. The incident took place at the intersection of Kentucky Road and Missouri 291 Highway on December 27. Independence police responded to the crash involving two vehicles and found McIntyre trapped in a white Chevrolet pickup blocking the road. Court documents revealed he was the sole occupant of the truck and a beer bottle was recovered from inside the vehicle. The crash involved a maroon Ford Ranger with three occupants, one of whom unfortunately passed away due to injuries sustained. McIntyre was found to have been speeding, ran a red light, and collided with the Ranger at the intersection. Tests indicated a blood-alcohol level of 0.186 about two hours after the accident. A bond of $100,000 cash only was set by a Jackson County judge for McIntyre, who could face up to 15 years in prison for the DWI death charge and up to seven years for each assault charge if convicted.
