5 hurt after multi-vehicle crash involving school bus in Montgomery County

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) -- Five people were hurt after a multi-vehicle collision with a school bus in Montgomery County on Thursday morning. The call came in around 7:10 a.m. on July 2. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to Firstfield Road and Clopper Road in Gaithersburg, according to MCFRS Assistant Chief David Pazos. There, a 4-vehicle crash in the area involving a school bus resulted in at least five people being taken to the hospital, including one person taken to adult trauma. Pazos stated that the school bus was rear ended. Preliminarily, it appears the school bus driver was training a student driver when the collision happened, said Degan Bartels, public information officer for the Montgomery County Police Department. A driver had to be extricated from one of the vehicles but overall injuries were minor, Bartels said. DC News Now is reaching out to confirm how many vehicles were involved and to confirm the number of people hospitalized.
